Lavinia Mears Joins Stein McGuire
(Livingston, NJ) -- The law firm of Stein McGuire Pantages & Gigl, LLP has announced that Lavinia Lee Mears has joined the firm as a partner.
Most recently a solo practitioner, operating the Mears Law Firm in Linden, NJ, Mears will represent clients primarily in employment and labor law matters. Additional practice areas include commercial litigation, consumer fraud as well as criminal and municipal matters.
A former assistant prosecutor, Mears is a seasoned trial attorney. She also has successfully negotiated and litigated hundreds of highly complex civil cases. As an employment lawyer, Mears regularly represents employees and top executives in wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and whistleblower cases. She also counsels employers on how to avoid litigation by conducting prompt and independent investigations into employee complaints of unlawful conduct; diversity training; and audits of workplace policies, procedures and processes.
In addition to her litigation background, Mears is a highly experienced negotiator, having served as a procurement attorney with AT&T, negotiating numerous contracts to acquire high-end technology goods and services, each of which exceeded $100,000,000.00. She is also trained to serve as a court-appointed mediator and offers private alternative dispute resolution services including arbitration and mediation.
Mears' writings have been published in numerous magazines and periodicals including The Practising Law Institute. Her work has been cited as authority by The Yale Law Journal, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Northwestern University Law Review and The Military Law Review. Lavinia also has assisted authors in understanding trial procedure and criminal law.
Mears serves as the State Vice President of Public Policy and Legislative Affairs of New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO). In 2008, she was named to the "NJAWBO 30," an elite group of 30 women business owners in the State of New Jersey. Mears is also the president of the Women Lawyers of Union County.
She is a graduate of Rowan University and Seton Hall University Law School and is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. She is a longtime resident of Union County and resides there with her family.
